Datamount launches commercial data centre in Oman

MUSCAT, December 3, 2018

Datamount, a data centre hosting services company, said it has launched the nation’s largest commercial data centre at Jebel Akhdar, in Oman.

The launch ceremony was held at the Kempinski Hotel under the patronage of Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, advisor to HM Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said.

A cost-efficient facility, with a total area of around 9000 sq m, will accommodate around 1000 racks, making it the sultanate’s largest scale-data centre, said a statement from the company.

The company will leverage this highly reliable, scalable, state-of-the-art facility to further grow its data centre services, it said.

Designed by technology partners NxtGen Data Center & Cloud Technologies, one of the well-known data centre service providers, the new facility is being established to provide leading data centre services to government entities, corporates and various business enterprises, locally and internationally.

The company aims to support and help clients achieve their commercial goals and service objectives, through the facility.

Moreover, Datamount also signed a contract with Ministry of Defense Pension Fund for leasing its land at Jebel Akdhar with a total area of around 28,000 sq m.

The company has signed a partnership with Awasr as a strategic Telecom Services provider and with Avaya for providing cloud communications as a service.

Additionally, the company also signed up with Pulse Information Technologies (Rittal solution provider) for building a mini data centre of 20 racks.

Partnerships were also signed with Innovative Systems Middle East for providing cloud based document management system and support service for Avaya and with IMTAC for promoting Datamount collaborative services and IoT technology in the market.

Datamount’s shareholders include renowned industry names such as the Royal Office Pension Fund, Ministry of Defense Pension Fund, Internal Security Services Pension Fund, Muscat Services and Investment, Seven Seas Group, Industrial Management Technology & Contracting (IMTAC) and Nasma Telecommunications.

Datamount strives to offer enhanced and high-quality data centre services such as: Infrastructure services (Tier 4 specifications, containment, cage solution, dedicated cabinet, shared cabinet); managed services (platform/OS management, database management, network management, store management, security management); continuity services (backup, disaster recovery, data protection, managed security), cloud services (public, hyper, private, community).

Having numerous benefits for the national economy, the facility would be the first state-of-art certified Tier 4 data centre with a capacity of 1000 racks, making it among the largest centres in the region.

Well-known companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Oracle and SAP are expected to consider Oman for hosting, courtesy Datamount in the future, it said.

The facility will also generate nearly 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The company’s investment in this state of the art data centre will result in around 15 per cent of its projects being awarded to SMEs.

Datamount will also support IT initiatives like Smart city , IoT, blockchain, and the setting up of training and innovation centres to name a few.

As on date, the company’s cloud computing services are ready for the market. Datamount is expected to go live with mini data centre having a capacity of 20 racks in the second quarter of 2019.

Subsequently, Datamount’s full setup will be completed and is expected to go live by the fourth quarter of 2020 with a capacity of 1000 racks, it stated.
