Alstom wins $848m Riyadh Metro network contract

RIYADH, September 18, 2018

Alstom, as a part of Flow consortium, has been awarded a contract worth more than €730 million ($848 million) from Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA) to provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services for lines 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Riyadh Metro network over a period of 12 years including the mobilisation period.

A leading developer of markets systems, equipment and services for the transport sector, Alstom had partnered with Ansaldo Signalling and Transportation Systems (STS), an Italian transportation company and Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, an Italian stated-owned company focusing on rail infrastructure, to form the Flow Consortium1 to bid for the O&M tender for Riyadh metro system.

The total value for the consortium comes to around SR10.9 billion ($2.9 billion), with the rolling stock and systems infrastructure maintenance representing more than €730 million, said a statement from the company.

Alstom’s scope of work within the Flow consortium will include the full maintenance of the transit system, including trains provided by the French transport giant for lines 4,5,6 and as well as those provided for line 3, as well as fixed installations such as tracks, signalling, communication, passenger information systems and power supply.

On the big win, Didier Pfleger, senior vice-president for the Middle-East and Africa region, said: "We are honoured that our client ADA, for whom we are currently supplying a fully integrated metro system for lines 4, 5 and 6 (Yellow, Green, and Purple lines), is renewing its trust in Alstom’s capabilities and expertise with an additional contract for operation and maintenance services."

Alstom has been present in Saudi Arabia for nearly 60 years and this award also illustrates its commitment to supporting the kingdom's mobility projects for a more efficient, more reliable and more sustainable transport network, he stated.

"We are very pleased to be working closely with our partners from the Flow consortium," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
