The summit is scheduled to take place from November 21 to 23, reveals the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF).

Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and by directives from MBRF chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the summit offers a comprehensive global knowledge platform to discuss the most pressing issues and challenges facing the knowledge industry and proposing solutions to address them, said a statement from the organisers.

The event brings together decision makers, intellectuals, experts, scientists, and academics from all around the world to share experiences, insight, and best practices, it said.

Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, said: “The summit has established itself as a catalyst for the regional knowledge movement, working to modernise the production, dissemination, and localisation of knowledge.”

“The event has managed – since its very first edition – to create a dialogue among all stakeholders in the knowledge industry in order to promote ideas and introduce innovative programmes and initiatives,” he added.

“The activities held during the summit add tremendous momentum to the event,” he said.

Huwaireb continued: “Especially as it hosts the awards ceremony of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Award, which honours those who play an effective role in the efforts to build a knowledge economy and preserve intellectual assets.”

“The summit also constitutes the official platform to reveal the results of the Arab Knowledge Index and the Arab Reading Index – both accurate scientific tools that track the status of knowledge and reading in the Arab region,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Tony Abbott, former prime minister of Australia, said: “The summit is a unique and highly commendable event that gathers prominent experts, decision makers, figureheads, and knowledge enthusiasts from varying geographies, cultures, and backgrounds, all in an effort to start and maintain a dialogue about the global knowledge industry.”

“For the duration of Summit, these high-profile specialists engage in positive debates to gauge the current status of knowledge, identify the challenges – present and future – that face it, and propose innovative and insightful solutions to address them,” he said.

“The summit includes a number of sophisticated indices that quantify the metrics and data pertaining to the Middle East’s knowledge sector,” Abbott added. “This goes to show that the event relies on objective, concrete data in all of its recommendations and findings.”

The Knowledge Summit 2017 will focus on the history of industrial revolutions and their role in transforming people’s lives for the better, on the one hand, and in supporting the development of knowledge societies, on the other.
