UAE group, Milrem to develop unmanned army vehicle

ABU DHABI, February 20, 2017

International Golden Group (IGG), a specialist in high-end defence and security solutions based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, said it has signed a co-operation deal with Milrem, the Estonian defence solutions provider, to develop and arm unmanned ground vehicles (UGV).

It will be done through the IGG Aselsan Integrated Systems (IAIS), a joint venture between IGG and Aselsan, the largest Turkish defence electronics company.

IAIS is an expert in the development and manufacture of remote controlled weapon systems with a wide range of applications.

Khalifa Al Balushi, the chief executive of IGG and chief Executive Officer of IGG  ASELSAN Integrated Systems: "The vehicle which will be produced is the first of its kind in the UAE, and is set to meet the tactical requirements on the battlefield and to increase the combat capability while minimizing the damage and operational needs.”

Kuldar Väärsi, the chief executive of Milrem, said: "Our partnership with IGG stems from our aim to expand our operations and make the required technology available to develop such vehicles in the Middle East. The Prototype is the first of its kind in this collaboration, and will be deployed in numerous missions."

The prototype of this product is currently being showcased under the umbrella of IGG at the ongoing defence expo Idex 2017 in Abu Dhabi, said a statement from the company.

The visitors can test and interact with the product through the remote control unit at the exhibition, it stated.
