Etihad unit hosts top Italian businesses in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, November 1, 2016

Etihad Global Cargo Management Company and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a networking event for 20 industrial powerhouses from Parma, Italy, who collectively represent 3.7 per cent of the Italian gross domestic product (GDP).

The event in Abu Dhabi also included 75 representatives from several Emirati businesses, said a statement from Etihad Global Cargo Management Company.

The event offered the opportunity for the key industry players to learn more about the UAE and the Etihad Aviation Group, while promoting partnership and business opportunities, it said.

It followed the recent signing by Etihad Global Cargo Management Company and Parma Airport of an exclusive agreement to develop cargo volumes at the airport, it added.

Moreover, as part of the agreement daily road feeder services will be operated to Italy’s air cargo hub, Milan’s Malpensa Airport, 180 km away. The project, being developed in conjunction with Etihad Global Cargo Management Company partner airline Alitalia, provides regional businesses with rapid delivery of their products to a global market, said a statement.

Parma is the centre of one of the largest exporting regions in Italy for high value commodities – such as chemicals and pharma products and foodstuffs – which require swift, secure transport through an international network which Etihad GCMC and its partners facilitate, it said.

David Kerr, senior vice president of Etihad Cargo, said: “Our partnership is more than one between aviation entities, but two countries. It was an honour to welcome the Italian delegates to Abu Dhabi and we are looking forward to creating new business opportunities by connecting local producers with global customers through our vast network of more than 250 destinations.”

Alberto Figna, chairman of the Unione Industriali, said: “With the co-operation of Etihad Global Cargo Management Company, the strategic development plan for Parma Airport is already coming to life.”

“We are really honoured to have gained the interest of Etihad Airways, a key player in the world of aviation. I am proud of the agreement which will generate new business opportunities for Parma and neighbouring territories,” he added.

Federico Pizzarotti, mayor of Parma, said: “I am proud of what has been done by Etihad Airways and our airport in Parma, which will serve to boost trade between our countries.” – TradeArabia News Service
