Iran Air is weighing purchase of 80 Mitsubishi Regional Jets

Iran plans to buy Mitsubishi passenger jets

TEHRAN, July 14, 2016

Iran is in negotiations with Japan's Mitsubishi Aircraft to purchase regional passenger jets that are currently under development, said a report.

Mitsubishi Aircraft, the aviation arm of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, began market surveys into Iran last September, four months before the US lifted sanctions, reported Iran Daily News, citing a Nikkei report.

The company has been negotiating jet sales with Iran's flag carrier Iran Air and Iran Aseman Airlines, as well as the country's aviation authorities, it said.

Iran Air is weighing purchase of 80 Mitsubishi Regional Jets for use on domestic routes.

Executives from both sides also discussed a possible deal for the 70-seat Mitsubishi jets last month during the International Air Transport Association conference in Dublin, Ireland.
