Gulf Markets International (GMI) is evaluating a plan to start manufacturing some products locally in Bahrain.

A general trading company based in Bahrain since the 1970s, GMI has operations spread across the Gulf region.

The proposal, according to GMI’s CEO Alain Arida, is currently under study and in the final stages of approval.

“Bahrain could become a hub for manufacturing of these products, giving a cost advantage to the entire GCC region,” says Arida.

GMI’s main activities are focused on sourcing, importing and exporting a wide range of products from reputable international suppliers for its various divisions and providing support for joint ventures.

The company also facilitates sponsorship facilities for foreign companies interested in having their representative or branch offices in the Gulf region.

Commenting on GMI’s strategy to tackle the current economic environment in the region, Arida says GMI adapts rapidly to the changing business environment in the GCC and neighbouring countries and caters easily to its stakeholders’ needs through value-added solutions and innovative ideas.
“The mantra is to adapt to the new market conditions. We will have to embrace the change,” he adds.

GMI has expanded its business into various field such as: building materials; lifts and escalators; medical equipment; agriculture and animal feed; industrial supplies; and sponsorship.
It is also planning to start its own training division, to impart ‘strategy and soft skills’ training to people in Bahrain.

GMI is the exclusive agent for Orona elevators and escalators. Orona is one of the leading European manufacturers located in Spain, with operations spread over 85 countries globally.

GMI also represents Cox Gomyl, a world leader in building maintenance units.
