Bin Sulayem ... this combination of world class services will
be a unique offering for the UK and Europe

DP World London Gateway, UPS to set up new facility

UK, November 3, 2015

DP World London Gateway and UPS today announced plans to build a new 32,000 sq m package sorting and delivery facility worth £120 million ($184.6 million), at the logistics site in the south east of England.

The project is one of UPS’s largest infrastructure investments outside of the US, said a statement from the company.

The facility, expected to be completed in the summer of 2017, will act as a UK hub and distribution centre for the local area as well as a key gateway to UPS’s global transportation network, it said.

On completion, it will be able to process approximately 30,000 packages per hour, with room for further expansion, it added.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of DP World, said: “We congratulate UPS on this strategic development. By using DP World London Gateway Park and Port, UPS will have a fast ‘global conveyor-belt’ directly connected to their own worldwide network.”

“UPS’s hub will also provide distribution solutions to other logistics park occupiers. This combination of world class services will be a unique offering for the UK and Europe,” he said.

Luis Arriaga, managing director of UPS for UK, Ireland and Nordics, said: “This construction reaffirms our commitment to the UK and our confidence in its economy.”

“It is part of our plans to invest nearly $2 billion in infrastructure across Europe over the next five years. Through these investments, we will continue to reliably and efficiently connect our customers of all sizes to destinations all over the world,” he said.

Opened in the fourth quarter of 2013, DP World London Gateway is the UK’s newest, major deep-sea container port adjacent to Europe’s largest logistics park.

Owned and operated by DP World and situated on the north bank of the River Thames, London Gateway provides unrivalled deep-sea shipping access to the largest consumer markets in the UK.

The port's location, with its superior operational systems and service, ensure ships load and unload as fast as possible, making London Gateway a world class asset for the UK. – TradeArabia News Service
