Siemon focuses on emerging technology across Africa

DUBAI, July 10, 2015

Global IT infrastructure specialist Siemon has completed a series of educational events across Africa, to share knowledge and expertise on data centre design and technology, smart buildings and convergence.

The ‘Emerging Technology Forum’ (ETF) seminars attracted an audience that included end users, internet service providers (ISPs) and telcos, interested to learn about the latest advances in networking technology, said a statement.

Entitled ‘Data Centre Solutions and Design Services, Product Ecosystem and ConvergeIT,’ these technology forums were held in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia.

Explaining the rationale for the series of seminars, Iyer Sivakumar, sales manager for Africa, said: “We understand the huge appetite for education and development amongst industry professionals in Africa.

“Siemon is ideally placed to share technical expertise and understanding from its work globally with those shaping the future for data centres, co-location facilities and enterprise infrastructure in this region.”

The series of technology forums started in Kenya, with a half day seminar at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi.  Here Siemon partnered with Arista, to showcase a range of its products, including demonstrations of its high density data centre equipment and intelligent infrastructure solution, MapIT G2.

In Nigeria, the forum was held at Victoria Crown Plaza in Lagos, where Siemon’s discussion of data centre design, technology, its product ecosystem (complete portfolio of copper, fibre, power, cooling and intelligence) and convergence solution - ConvergeIT, attracted an audience of 85, including end users from a range of industry sectors, those in the channel and representatives from telcos and the public sector.

“This was a highly interactive event, with a very lively question and answer section. The IT professionals attending were keen to understand how the latest technology demonstrated could offer specific advantage to them and how it can be deployed to maximum advantage.  This kept us engaged in lively debate on a range of subjects including security, unified communication and networking,” said Sivakumar.

Next in the series of events, was a half day forum in Ghana, held at the Novotel in Accra.   As in the other locations, here Siemon presented a wide range of products, including its highest performing category 7/7A Tera copper cabling, fibre optic solutions such as LightStack and Plug and Play cabling, ideal for rapid deployment in the data centre.

ConvergeIT was discussed for networking smart buildings, offering the potential to consolidate many services over one infrastructure.  Joining Siemon to present at this event were Avaya and Raycom.

Concluding the programme, was a seminar in Ethiopia, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Addis Ababa.  At this forum the audience included end users from government, education and banking, plus systems integrators and other industry professionals, said the statement.
