Six Sigma...a tool for process improvement

25 Alba staff certified as ‘Green Belt in Six Sigma’

MANAMA, March 19, 2015

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has announced that 25 of its employees have been certified as "Green Belt in Six Sigma".

Six Sigma is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The employees' selection was based on the successful completion of their various "Lean Six Sigma" projects, which helped in optimising the processes and decreasing operational costs within "Project Titan".

Launched in February last year, Project Titan is a two-year efficiency programme aimed at reducing the smelter's cash cost by $150 per metric tonne by the end of January next year.

The "Green Belts" were honoured at a ceremony attended by Alba chief executive Tim Murray, executive management officials, managers and union representatives.

"Operational efficiency and global competitiveness are part of the core values of Alba," Murray said.

"It is encouraging to see employees aligning themselves with our values and contributing towards our continuous improvement."

A specialised panel discussion was also held, which was an important knowledge sharing forum for members within as well as outside Alba. - TradeArabia News Service
