Regional printing revenue to grow 7pc...to hit $26bn by 2018

Expo Centre Sharjah to host top print, pack trade show

SHARJAH, March 10, 2015

Expo Centre Sharjah, a leading leading exhibition venue and events organiser, is set to organise the second edition of the biennial Print Pack Arabia trade show, with the apex body of writing, packaging and allied industries in India.

The inaugural edition of Print Pack Arabia which was held this year, was also jointly held by Expo Centre Sharjah and the Indian Printing, Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers' Association (IPAMA), which organises Print Pack India, the third largest exhibition of its kind in the world and the biggest in India.

The second Print Pack Arabia will be held at Expo Centre Sharjah from February 22 to 25 next year.

Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, chief executive officer, Expo Centre Sharjah, said: “The upcoming edition of Print Pack Arabia will take advantage of the thriving packaging market in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena), which is set to grow at a higher rate than the global market, underscoring the pre-eminence of the regional market and the significance it holds for equipment makers and dealers.”

While the packaging market in Mena is set to grow at an average annual growth rate of five per cent from last year to 2019, the global market is forecast to grow at just over four per cent during the same period, according to a recent study.

The packaging market in Mena is currently valued at $41.1 billion and is forecast to grow to $52.4 billion by 2019, it said. The global packaging industry will generate $975 billion in sales by 2018, and 60 per cent of that will be created in the food industry.

“I am extremely happy to continue our partnership with IPAMA. We drew a lot of success from IPAMA in successfully launching Print Pack Arabia in 2014. I am sure together we can present a bigger event for the regional printing and packaging industry,” Midfa.

KS Khurana, president, IPAMA, said: “We are delighted to continue our association with Expo Centre Sharjah. The inaugural show received tremendous response from the regional industry. We could facilitate the participation of a large contingent of exhibitors for the launch edition and we are happy to note that the interest shown by Indian manufacturers and suppliers is way above our expectations for Print Pack Arabia 2016.

The regional packaging industry is driven by growing economies, expanding retail landscape, rising demand for food and beverages and other consumer goods, increasing incomes, and a relatively young and growing population, according to experts.

With increased manufacturing and re-packing industry in the Middle East, packaging has emerged as one of the most active industries in the UAE, with demand continuing to rise for both flexible and solid packaging, said the statement.

The printing revenue in the region is forecast to grow at over seven per cent to reach $26 billion by 2018, which the global printing industry is forecast to reach $980 billion by 2018, driven mainly by growth in packaging and labels. - TradeArabia News Service
