Gulf Industry Fair opens in Bahrain; latest products on show

MANAMA, February 3, 2015

Gulf Industry Fair (GIF) 2015, the Northern Gulf’s leading business-to-business industrial show, was opened this morning by HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister of Bahrain.

Industrial heavyweights from the region are leading a strong line-up of 62 exhibitors showcasing their products and services at the Gulf Industry Fair, being held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC) in Bahrain.

The Premier toured the exhibition after the inauguration and expressed his satisfaction on the quality of the show and admiration for the companies participating.

“We develop our industry and all aspects of its infrastructure in line with the needs of this nation,” HRH the Premier told the media after a tour of the exhibition. “We have the will to persevere and ensure Bahrain is represented in the right way both within the country and in other parts of the world.”

He said the kingdom’s cordial relations with regional neighbours and emerging economies in the East would help it to drive positive growth in the industrial sector.

HRH Prince Khalifa said at a time when Bahrain’s core industries were in expansion mode, it was important to strengthen the momentum and provide stakeholders a platform to strike deals and partnerships.

“It should be our endeavour to bring more exhibitors... Bahrain will have an open door for traders and exhibitors and we encourage them to prosper in this nation,” he said.

At the Alba stand, HRH the Premier was welcomed by company chairman Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa and its executive management. Shaikh Daij presented the Premier with a unique, hard embossed aluminium portrait of HRH, made from Alba’s aluminium and by its workers.

HCE managing director Jubran Abdulrahman said this year’s edition builds on the legacy of the previous editions. “We are grateful for the unwavering support of HRH the Prime Minister in helping us establish the Gulf Industry Fair as the 'must-attend' exhibition for companies operating in the Northern Gulf’s expanding industrial markets.

“We feel confident that the new features we have introduced this year will be useful business enablers for both exhibitors and visitors over the next two days,” he said.

On the first day of the three-day event, Al Mazaya Holding of Kuwait formally launched leasing at its $20-million new industrial facility.

Asry, the leading ship and rig repair yard, announced plans to sign a ship repair agreement with Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) for 19 vessels over the next two and half years. The deal is worth an estimated over $ 33 million.

The company is also showcasing its Project Jupiter, an initiative launched to make the shipyard the leader in onsite specialist contractors in the Middle East. The company highlights that several international names have lined up to boost their presence at the Bahrain-based shipyard.

The event promises three days of deal-making, innovation and market-leading products on show for trade visitors from around the region.

This year’s edition of the show has added new features while attracting exhibitors from as many as 19 countries across the world.

The show is being held against a backdrop of falling oil prices, bringing into sharper focus the efforts of GCC states to accelerate their economic diversification initiatives.

The fair provides a platform for companies to raise their profile in this region of huge potential, as they network with visitors from across the Middle East, eager to see the latest trends and innovations in the sectors of aluminium, industrial processes and manufacturing, metals, energy and environmental protection, ports and maritime, training and safety.

As the Northern Gulf’s trade and logistics hub, Bahrain has for the last eight years proven to be the ideal venue for the fair attracting visitors, predominantly business owners and/or procurement professionals from the kingdom and further afield, said Hilal Conferences & Exhibitions (HCE), the organiser of the show.

NEW FEATURES

This year, visitors will enjoy a range of new features. These include vocational workshops tailored to individuals working in the kingdom’s industrial sectors. Organised by Medpoint Design and Events Management in association with Lead Academy, the Training4Life workshops will offer expert insight and live practical experience in disciplines such as behavioural safety while exploring ways to enhance productivity and innovation for profitability.

Meanwhile, Ducab, one of the Middle East’s leading manufacturers of high quality electrical cable wires and copper products, will hold a seminar entitled: ‘Selection and installation of fire-resistant power and control cable systems for life safety and fire-fighting applications’.

Gulf Industry Fair 2015 also, for the first time, hosts ITECH Industry 2015, an event where IT companies will showcase their capabilities and generate direct leads.

As in previous years, the show is being supported by some of Bahrain’s industrial icons. This includes Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the world’s largest smelters, whose role in creating a vibrant community of downstream aluminium industries – including the likes of fellow exhibitors Garmco (Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill Company), Balexco (Bahrain Aluminium Extrusion Company), Midal Cables, Ameeri Industries, and Turk Mechanical Industries – will again be highlighted at the ‘Aluminium Village’.

National oil company Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) fronts the ‘Energy and Environmental Protection’ segment of the show, where it is outlining its investment programmes.

Majaal, a developer and operator of industrial facilities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), is  again the principal strategic sponsor of the ‘Logistics and Industrial Facilities’ segment, where it is   demonstrating Bahrain’s strong credentials as an investment destination.

Other partners include Ahmed Mansoor Al A’ali, who sponsors the show’s ‘Industrial Processes and Manufacturing’ segment, and Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (Asry), one of the Gulf’s leading shipyards, as sponsor of the ‘Ports and Maritime’ segment.

Gulf Industry Fair is open to trade and business visitors from 9am to 7pm till February 5.-
