Isolux Corsan wins key Saudi substation deal

Isolux Corsan, a leading Spanish engineering and construction firm, has won a major contract for the construction of two 115 kV substations in the city of Al Hasa, Saudi Arabia.

The $40-million project, awarded by Saudi Arabia's National Grid, will be completed within 27 months, stated the Madrid-based company in a statement

The scope of work includes the construction of two substations in addition to the modification of the existing substation at Al Uqair.

It involves the design, material supply, testing and commissioning of two substations, as well as the modified substation. In addition, the company will provide equipment for the automation system.

Isolux Corsan said this was the company's first contract in Saudi Arabia, one of the countries with the highest energy production capacity in the world.

With this project win, Isolux Corsan is set to boost its presence in the region.

The company is currently carrying out the works to expand and improve the Bidbid South Freeway in Oman, for a total value of €174 million ($213 million). This project involves the widening of the road from two to four lanes as well as improving a section of 56-km-long stretch.

The Spanish company is currently building 172 km of 300 kV transmission lines in Kuwait at an estimated cost of €80 million ($98 million).

The project, the first for the company in this country, is being developed on a turnkey basis and has been commissioned by the Ministry of Electricity and Water of Kuwait, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
