Hamzah... unparalleled understanding of the Agthia business.

Agthia Group appoints new CEO

ABU DHABI, September 30, 2014

Agthia Group, one of the UAE’s leading food and beverage groups, has announced the appointment of Iqbal Hamzah as chief executive officer, effective immediately.

Hamzah has been group chief financial officer and company secretary of Agthia since joining the company in August 2006, and was Agthia’s first chief financial officer. Since May 2014 he has also held the position of acting chief executive officer.

Eng Dhafer Ayed Al Ahbabi, chairman of Agthia Group, said: “Hamzah has a deep and unparalleled understanding of the Agthia business, having spent over eight years in our senior management team. His experience and knowledge of the business was a critical factor in the board’s decision to formalise his appointment as our new chief executive officer, to guide us through the next stage of our expansion programme. We are on a strong growth trajectory, with a powerful portfolio of brands which enjoy leading market shares in their respective categories, and we are confident that under Hamzah’s leadership we will generate even greater shareholder value.”

Hamzah, a national of Pakistan, began his career in 1989 with The Gillette Company and during a 17-year tenure with the company held various key senior financial positions, including regional finance director for the Middle East and Africa, based in Dubai, and finance director in Prague covering the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Prior to joining Agthia, Hamzah spent four years as the regional finance director of Gillette/P and G for Russia, Republics and Baltics, based in Moscow. He is a chartered accountant and a chartered corporate secretary.

Agthia is experiencing significant growth in its portfolio of brands, and earlier this year launched Monster beverage products in the UAE.  It has also recently commissioned a new high-speed bottling line and a new modern mega distribution centre. The commercial launch of the frozen baked products is scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year, as is also the expansion of the UAE distribution of Alpin natural spring bottled water by the company’s branch in Turkey. – TradeArabia News Service
