Power-Gen Mideast to host project tour in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, July 7, 2014

Power and water industry professionals are to be hosted for technical tours of three major engineering projects in Abu Dhabi, ahead of a major exhibition.

The tours of Masdar City, Ansaldo Thomassen Gulf’s gas turbine repair facility, and the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP), will be held October 11.

The Power-Gen Middle East and WaterWorld Middle East Conference and Exhibitions will run from October 12 to 14 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, which will be conducted by WaterWorld Middle East’s event partner, Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC).

The first tour, part of WaterWorld Middle East conference, will visit STEP, which is set to become one of the largest sewage systems in the world. The tour, which has limited availability, will run for four hours, and include a briefing at the visitors’ centre and site visit to the top of a tunnel access shaft.

Alan Thomson, managing director of ADSSC, said: “This multi-billion dirham project will have the capacity for three times Abu Dhabi’s current sewage flows, giving it a planned working life of at least 80 years.

“The wastewater management system will support Abu Dhabi’s long-term growth and reduce system costs by enabling the decommissioning of existing pump stations.”

The second tour is of sustainable Masdar City, which is a pioneering a ‘greenprint’ to accommodate rapid urbanisation while reducing energy, water and waste.

The five-hour tour will include visits to Masdar Institute Clean Rooms and Labs, the Recycling Center, the 10MW Solar Photovoltaic Farm, Siemens Building, Barjeel Wind Tower, the Knowledge Centre, the Incubator Building, the One Stop Shop, and residences.

The third tour will visit Ansaldo Thomassen Gulf’s (ATG) gas turbine repair facility located in the Mussafah Industrial area.

The facility is part of the Ansaldo Energia Group. The tour will last for four hours and include transportation, a guided tour and light refreshments.

Nigel Balckaby, event director, PGME, said: “With so much potential for growth in the power and water sectors in the GCC and the Middle East, it is important that industry professionals are fully informed of the latest developments in the efficient design and operation of new facilities.”

The 12th annual Power-Gen Middle East will provide the platform for the international power community to meet and receive vital information first hand.

The event offers a forum to meet the region’s power needs by putting them face-to-face with key decision makers and provide the best possible opportunity to share ideas, meet new contacts and build business relationships.

WaterWorld Middle East will be co-located with Power-Gen Middle East, establishing itself as an important regional event dedicated to strategic and technical issues in the water and wastewater industry.

The last day for all interested attendees to register for the technical tours is September 12. - TradeArabia News Service
