Alba upgrades potline 4

Manama, April 22, 2014

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has recently upgraded its potline 4 to AP36 technology following the increase in line current of 355 kA in December 2013 to 360 kA.

The upgrade in the line current in Pot Line 4 -- which started operations in 1992 with a line current of 295 kA -- is part of Alba’s initiative to boost its performance levels across the plant. The upgrade from 355 kA to 360 kA is expected to add 4,000 tonnes a year.

This accomplishment was achieved by an internal team comprising members from the Power, Carbon Operations & Maintenance, Process Control & Development, Reduction Operation & Maintenance departments.

Alba’s chief operations officer, Isa Al-Ansari said: “Alba believes in the principles of lean management and operational efficiency, and it is a matter of pride to have achieved this key milestone by a dedicated in-house team without significant capital investment. I congratulate the team responsible for this success and for demonstrating that everything is possible with team work.” -TradeArabia News Service
