Kavalani opens ‘industrial boutique’ in Bahrain

Manama, March 19, 2013

By Abdulaziz Khattak

With the ‘store within a store’ concept, Bahrain-based Kavalani and Sons has opened the doors to an industrial showroom that is set to take equipment and supplies sales to a whole new level.

Set up with investment of $12 million, the facility located in the Salman Industrial City at the Bahrain Investment Wharf in Hidd is spread over a massive 130,000 sq ft. It houses the company’s head office, spacious new showroom, warehousing and logistics facilities.

The showroom is arranged to display a wide variety of products that are procured from various regions across the globe, under one roof.

“We strongly believe in innovation and constantly look out for the latest, most advanced products and solutions for the market. And this new facility is yet another expression of our passion to not only serve our customers, but serve them innovatively,” said Mukesh Tolaram Gandhi, the company’s managing director at the launch.

According to him, the setup offers customers a friendly atmosphere that comprises individual retail spaces catering to various categories of products.

The showroom has been segregated into different display units where materials are displayed according to purpose and brand. They are also segregated brand-wise making it easier for customers to identify products and their needs.

Another distinctive aspect of the spacious new facility is that customers will be able to examine, test and select these products first-hand. “Our dedicated customer support sales staff is well trained to advise clients on the selection of materials and equipment required for a particular job thereby providing a solution to their needs,” said Prashant Raj Gandhi, the sales director.

Materials like power and hand tools, safety and personal protection items, cordless hand drill machines, abrasives and more can be seen, felt and handled, he added.

Prashant said the idea for the facility came from customer feedback. “Many customers have come to us saying they want a hardware or industrial shop where they can feel comfortable because at the back of their mind, these are quite messy places. With this new facility of ours, a customer gets ample time to decide on a product. Plus our sales teams are at hand to help them out with any inquiries.”

Devkishan Gandhi, senior director said, “Because of the increased workspace in the new facility, we will be able to conduct enhanced training programs for our sales team to update them on the products.”

The corporate head office of the Kavalani & Sons Company will also be housed and all regional operations monitored from the new showroom.

Kavalani’s stable of products includes well-known names like Tyrolit, 3M, DeWalt, Ridgid, Elora, Bata Industrials which have been introduced into the Bahraini market over the years.

Overall, the company provides industrial, construction and marine supplies with a portfolio of more than 30,000 products of leading brands from across the globe. “We launch on an average four to five product lines a year,” noted Prashant.

On the economy of Bahrain, Prashant said he has full confidence in the business environment and especially in the construction sector. "The government is providing every opportunity for business to flourish, adding that Bahrain Investment Wharf can be compared to any major economic zone in the region," he stated.

Kavalani’s major clients in Bahrain include Asry, Alba, GPIC, Bapco, government ministries, and other major construction companies.
Furthermore, it has been part of every major project in the country including Bahrain Business Bay, where it has supplied HVAC, building materials, tools, etc to the under construction Four Seasons Hotel; bridges projects by Six Construct; the Mina Salman Interchange project, Bahrain International Circuit.

The group is also supplying to the upcoming $1.6-billion Dilmunia Island project off the coast of Muharraq.

When asked if they had plans to become an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or execute entire projects, both Prashant and Kamal Gandhi, managing director of UAE Operation, said they will stick to their strength, which is trading in industrial and construction materials and equipment on the supply side.

Established in 1850, Kavalani has grown from a small store in Manama into a substantial enterprise catering to numerous industries, construction contractors, government departments and ship supplies to chandlers.

The company also has a branch office and additional warehousing in the Sitra Industrial Area of Bahrain over an area of 44,000 sq ft, and operations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.-TradeArabia News Service
