Dubal rewards long-serving employees

Dubai, October 30, 2010

Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), one of the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelters, recently honoured 28 employees who had completed 25 years of service to the company.

The honouring ceremony at Westin Hotel and Resort, Mina Al Seyahi, was the seventh of its kind, having been instituted in 2004 coincident with the 25th anniversary of Dubal’s commissioning in 1979.

To date, a total of 392 employees have achieved their quarter century service milestone; while 122 employees have celebrated 30 years’ service at Dubal, a statement said.

“Everyone receiving a 25-year service award tonight has many personal achievements that have contributed to the success of our company. I am especially proud of Abdulla, our most senior Emirati employee, who not only rose through the ranks before being appointed to the top slot in 2005, but who also has taken Dubal to new heights,” said Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, vice chairman, Dubal.

“From a 755,000 metric tonnes per year smelter in 2005, Dubal’s production capacity has expanded to approximately 1 million metric tonnes per year. This, together with our joint venture investment with Mubadala Development Company in Emal (Emirates Aluminium), will position Dubal as one of the world’s top five producers of primary aluminium,” he added.

Abdulla Kalban said: “We have experienced the company’s genuine care and intentional investment of time and resources in our personal development, allowing each of us to realise our potential.”

Eight of the 25-service award recipients in 2010 (28.6 per cent) are UAE Nationals — a firm indicator of the success of Dubal’s Emiratisation programme, which has resulted in 22 per cent local representation within the company’s total workforce at the end of 2009, the statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
