Doha, May 31, 2008

Qatar Petroleum International will discuss with France's EDF and Gaz de France possible joint investment in Europe's power sector, a London-based weekly reported.

Doha's state-owned company will hold talks with the two French firms in the first week of June, according to Middle  East Economic Digest (Meed).

EDF and Qatar Petroelum International will hold talks in early June, the magazine cited Edouard Dahome, head of EDF Middle East, as saying. But Gaz de France declined to comment on whether it is holding talks with QPI.

Gaz de France signed a long-term partnership agreement with Qatar Petroleum International and Qatari authorities in January to help it enhance its presence the world's top exporter of liquefied national gas.

Qatar Petroleum International is considering investments in the power sector alongside the company's traditional focus on oil and gas, Ibrahim al-Ibrahim, vice-chairman of QPI, told Meed.-Reuters
