From 1992 to 1994, he attended the Harvard University School of Public Health and graduated with a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in quantitative methods. After 21 years of private practice, Dr Frykberg was the clinical dean of the Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery.

He is the author of nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications, and has also been the editor of two textbooks: The High-Risk Foot in Diabetes Mellitus (1991) and the Diabetic Charcot Foot (2010).

His expertise in the diabetic foot has translated into hundreds of speaking invitations internationally with numerous lecture engagements in China, India, Russia, South America, the UK, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Italy, and across Europe.

Dr Howard Umansky, founder and executive director of DMPrevent, said: “We are honoured to welcome Dr Robert Frykberg to the DMPrevent family. His appointment comes at an exciting time for DMPrevent as we continue to work with our partners in the UAE to address the local diabetes epidemic. The lack of wound care specialists combined with the expected rise in the prevalence of diabetes has made the need for DMPrevent’s services critical in this region. Dr Frykberg is an internationally recognised pioneer in podiatric medicine, and we look forward to working with him to reduce the number of amputations and change the trajectory of diabetes in the UAE.”

Frykberg said: “A diabetic ulcer or wound is a serious condition that without proper treatment can lead to amputation. Our mission at DMPrevent is to meet the full spectrum of patient needs through medical interventions related to the early detection, treatment and monitoring of the complications of diabetes. We are excited to be launching in the emirate of Fujairah to address the urgent needs of patients impacted by diabetes, while also developing scalable clinical protocols.”

DMPrevent will soon be opening the region’s only comprehensive wound care and amputation prevention centre with state-of-the-art treatment options in the clinic and remote monitoring capability in Fujairah, UAE. Using remote monitoring, patients can use their smartphones to alert doctors of changes in skin lesions or blood glucose and receive feedback from trained medical personnel. - TradeArabia News Service
