200 experts for UAE Cancer Congress in Dubai

DUBAI, October 27, 2015

A total of 200 faculty and speakers are expected to take part  in the seventh edition of the UAE Cancer Congress opening on October 29 at the InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City.

The event is taking place under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority, and supported by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.

Abdullah bin Souqat, executive director of Hamdan Medical Award, said: “Supporting this conference goes in line with the Award’s objectives to promote medical services by recognizing the importance of scientific research and outstanding achievements in the field of medicine.”

“The conference embodies the idea of the importance of concerted efforts of  academic institutions and the private and public healthcare sectors within the UAE in order to provide highest level of cancer care, which is a chronic non-communicable disease with high rates of morbidity and mortality,” he added.

Dr Shaheenah Dawood, consultant medical oncologist, Medical Oncology Department of Dubai Hospital, and the Congress President, said: “One of the key highlights of the congress is the live telecast of surgical cases performed by expert surgeons from Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.”

“The telecast will cover various surgical demonstrations in real time, tackling cases on Breast & Thyroid Cancer Surgery, Radical D2 Gastrectomy and Robotic Radical Prostatectomy. This workshop will provide educational value in showing the decision-making processes, surgical equipment and surgical support systems and will be an excellent platform for beginners and veteran surgeons to interact and have an intense learning experience.

“This year, the UAE Cancer Congress has been accredited by Dubai Health Authority with about 33.5 CME hours collectively for all the sessions. Over the three days, the event will feature sessions that promote a multidisciplinary approach to oncology covering areas, including Lung, Gynecology, GI, Head & Neck, Breast Surgical, Nursing, Nutrition, Imaging, Palliative Care and others,” he added.

“The congress has gained support from major regional and international hospitals which have played a key role in the development of the scientific programme; such as Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital, Ras Al-Khaimah, Gulf International Cancer Center, Al Noor Hospitals Group, American Hospital, Tata Memorial Center, and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital,” Dr Dawood concluded. – TradeArabia News Service
