Jafza healthcare sector posts 29pc growth in trade

DUBAI, January 25, 2015

The pharmaceutical and healthcare sector in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in Dubai, UAE, has generated trade worth Dh10.1 billion ($2.75 billion) in 2013, marking an increase of over 29 per cent over the previous year, a report said.

Jafza expects similar growth this year as well as in the coming years, added Emirates News Agency (WAM), the official UAE news agency.

Jafza will showcase rapidly growing opportunities in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector at the upcoming Arab Health 2015, a leading healthcare event in the Middle East, running from January 26 to 29 in Dubai.

“Jafza participation in the Arab Health aims at highlighting the huge prospects for global healthcare majors in the region and underlines the position of Jafza as the hub for multinationals to serve the diverse needs of these markets efficiently,” Ibrahim Mohamed Aljanahi, deputy CEO of Jafza and chief commercial officer of Economic Zones World (EZW), parent company of the Free Zone was quoted as saying in the report.

“The Free Zone seeks to attract more companies interested in the region to join the Free Zone’s thriving business community in the sector,” he added.

According to Business Monitor International, the healthcare expenditure in the Mena region will cross $200 billion in 2018 marking a five-year CAGR of 9.2 per cent, the WAM report said.
