Recycling scheme launched in Bahrain

MANAMA, January 2, 2015

A recycling scheme has been launched in Manama, Bahrain in a bid to raise people's awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and saving energy.

The scheme is being organised by Bahrain Contract Cleaning Establishment (BCC) in co-operation with the Capital Trustees and aims to reduce waste taken to the Municipalities and Urban Affairs Ministry landfill site in Askar, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

As part of the project, 50 recycle bins were placed across Juffair and Seef - each divided into three sections for paper, plastic and aluminium items.

Manama Municipality director-general Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa launched the scheme at Al Andalus Garden in Gudaibiya, in the presence of Capital Trustees chairman Mohammed Al Khozaae other officials.

"We started placing bins in shopping malls, supermarkets and hotels in 2012 but people did not take notice of it, while others said they would prefer it if they were placed on streets because they want them to be near the places they go to every day," said BCC managing director Hameed Al Majid.

"Therefore, the company decided to take the scheme to another level and engage everyone in it.

"We urge the public to co-operate with us and use these boxes to spread awareness of the importance of taking care of our environment, which means better health and better future." - TradeArabia News Service
