Bahrain airport... Ebola checks intensified

Bahrain steps up Ebola checks at airport

MANAMA, November 2, 2014

Bahrain is beefing up measures at entry points to avert a potential outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, a report said.

Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi and Public Security chief Major General Tariq Al Hassan visited Bahrain International Airport to assess the enforcement of Ebola precautionary measures, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The move followed directives from HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

Members of the National Anti-Disaster Committee and ministry officials were present. The committee had drawn up a list of recommendations and preventive steps as part of a contingency plan to prevent the deadly virus from spreading to Bahrain.

The Interior Ministry, Civil Defence, Transportation Ministry and Bahrain Airport Services also teamed up to organise a four-day programme which included courses and drills covering the airport's different facilities.

One drill involved the diagnosis of an Ebola-infected passenger who landed at Bahrain International Airport to assess medical readiness to deal with emergency cases.

Salmaniya Medical Complex medics have also been trained on quarantining potential Ebola cases. Maj Gen Al Hassan said the drills would be scrutinised to avert any loopholes. – TradeArabia News Service
