Regional healthcare sector transformation in focus

DUBAI, October 14, 2014

International and regional healthcare chiefs are set to meet in Dubai, UAE, this month with the objective of transforming the region’s healthcare sector.

The Middle East Healthcare Informatics Summit (MEHIS), which will be hosted by MCI Middle East, will be held from October 26 to 28 at the Shangri-La.

It will feature government, policy makers, healthcare providers and solutions providers.

It is aimed at highlighting latest developments in informatics which is a key to improving patient care, protecting patient privacy and achieving top-line growth.

The experts will address topics like EHR implementation, data analytics, clinical coding, transforming hospitals into digital hospitals, change management, information governance, career and workforce development.

The event will be the platform for the official launch of the Emirates Health Informatics Society.

Supported by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), IT-Pro, Intuit and Intersystems, the summit will feature experts from King Fahd Military Medical Complex (KFMMC), King Fahad Specialist Hospital Dammam, King Hamad University Hospital, US Veterans Heath Administration, King Abdulaziz Hospital-Al Ahsa, CMS Health, KPJ Healthcare Bhd, King Hussein Cancer Center, National Health Insurance Company Daman, Anadolu Medical Center, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Al Salam International Hospital, American Hospital, Abu Bellevue Medical Center, KSAU-HS Saudi, Cleveland Clinic, King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation, Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group, KKUH, National Guard Health Affairs and Al Ain Hospital.

Deborah Green, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Ahima will conduct a workshop about ‘Standards and Information Governance for Healthcare,’ which will comprise the basics of standards governance principles to define an overarching framework for information governance in healthcare.

The Middle East has been witnessing a boom in healthcare investments and this will continue to grow in the years to come.

According to a report of Frost & Sullivan, healthcare spend in the region in 2011 was estimated to be $46.12 billion and is estimated to reach $133.19 billion by 2018.

The summit will review existing methodologies and practices learnt and applied in healthcare informatics and help find out the implementation to healthcare professionals in hospitals and clinics across the Middle-East.

Regulatory bodies and institutional stakeholders will attend to learn the latest developments in health information management and how these developments affect the region’s best practices. - TradeArabia News Service
