Siemens has signed an agreement with Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a health and wellness destination that brings together a wealth of services in healthcare, medical education and research, to collaborate on medical education and training.

This sets out a broad framework for future medical educational initiatives in the UAE and the region, said Siemens Healthcare Middle East CEO Kay Zwingenberger after signing the MoU with his Dubai counterpart Marwan Abedin at the Arab Health 2014 expo in Dubai.

The agreement focuses on collaboration in medical education and training, further extending the skills and capabilities of healthcare professionals, it added.

DHCC chief operating officer (strategy & operation) DrWajdi Al Daghma and Siemens AG Healthcare Sector (customer solutions division CEO) Dr Norbert Gaus attended the signing ceremony held at DHCC stand.

“This agreement will see us further strengthen our relationship with DHCC, with a focus on the continuous professional development of the Middle East’s medical workforce. This is a core part of our company’s drive to support the sustainable growth of every country that Siemens does business in,” said Zwingenberger.

As part of the collaboration, Siemens will be supplying a mock-up of its Somatom Emotion CT scanner to DHCC’s Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center (KHMSC), said a statement from Siemens.

The center is a hitech facility that provides medical professionals with hands-on clinical training in a simulated environment. The new equipment from Siemens will be used to help familiarize healthcare teams with some of the latest imaging innovations being used in the region’s hospitals.

Abedin said the partnership with Siemens emphasizes its broader objective towards furthering medical education and supporting sustainable healthcare development in the UAE.

Siemens, he stated, has a strong track record in elevating the healthcare sector in the region, and we look forward to capitalizing on their expertise in providing clinical diagnostic solutions.
