AHD lab wins accreditation from US college

Dubai, January 28, 2014

The laboratory of the American Hospital Dubai (AHD) has earned its seventh consecutive accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.

American Hospital Dubai Laboratory is one of 7,500 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide and was the first private medical laboratory in the region to be accredited by CAP.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognised by the US federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection programme comprising over 3000 inspection checklist items.

During the CAP accreditation process, trained voluntary inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory.

David Farrick, acting CEO of the American Hospital Dubai, said: “The Lab is an essential and integral part of the hospital, playing a key role in the multidisciplinary team approach to providing the best medical care, 24/7.

“It also plays an increasingly central role in guiding the treatment delivered by our physicians in the age of targeted therapies.  We are very proud of our unique record of international accreditations – CAP and JCI – which independently confirms that we are achieving the highest quality of care and safety for our patients.” – TradeArabia News Service
