Ministry in new major green IT campaign

Manama, May 18, 2013

The Bahrain Works Ministry has launched a major green information technology initiative.

It aims to increase staff awareness about the need to protect environment and cut carbon footprint, information technology director Hisham Sater said.

The initiative follows the ministry's success with a green building technology push, he was quoted as saying in the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

Sater said this was also in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, while promoting public health.

The initiative will create an environment-friendly office culture through preserving nonrenewable resources such as papers and cartridges, save power and promote recycling.

The ministry aims to reduce the use of paper, instead opting for electronic documents, Sater said.

The directorate has also activated virtual desktops by replacing 30 per cent of computer servers with virtual desktops, thus reducing maintenance costs and saving energy.

Awareness campaign will be held in an attempt to change staff behavioural habits, he said.-TradeArabia News Service
