Tamkeen, Huawei to launch new tech internship programme

MANAMA, October 9, 2019

Tamkeen, Bahrain's labour development fund, has signed an agreement with Huawei, a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, to launch a new internship programme that brings global technology expertise to more individuals across the kingdom.

The agreement was signed by Dr Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi, chief executive of Tamkeen, and John Lu Yuedong, CEO of Huawei Technologies Bahrain during Bahrain Pavilion’s participation in Gitex 2019. The agreement seeks to empower Bahraini university students and fresh graduates to apply real-world applications of their studies while preparing for a career in the country’s blossoming technology field. The programme welcomes recent graduates and job seekers.

The programme will start with a six-month job training course in which participants will be placed in various departments of Huawei’s Bahrain office based on their professional interests. The internships will initially focus on technical engineering, customer support, IT management, and more. The goal is that by the end of the programme participants are job-ready and have a competitive edge in developing their careers further. A total of eight internships are being offered in the first round of the programme with the potential to develop additional opportunities in the future.

As a governmental organisation tasked with driving economic growth and development, one of Tamkeen’s objectives is to enhance the productivity and training of the national workforce through joint programmes with private companies such as Huawei.

Dr Janahi said: “It is our duty to be catalysts of progress in this dynamic technological era, realising the potential of every Bahraini while diversifying our economy in alignment with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. We are proud to be working with Huawei in this regard and commend them for supporting the youth of Bahrain to be prepared for the careers of tomorrow.”

Yuedong added: “Through joint training and innovation programmes with local partners like Tamkeen, Huawei aims to expand the value of ICT and create a more robust digital ecosystem in Bahrain. We believe that the human talent of this industry will be pivotal to supporting Bahrain’s national vision for long-term economic competitiveness and social prosperity.” - TradeArabia News Service
