QFBA launches Northumbria University in Qatar

Qatar Finance and Business Academy (QFBA) has launched Northumbria University, UK in Qatar to offer degrees in accounting, finance & investments and international banking that have been approved by Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The announcement was made during a press conference held today at QFBA premises, in the presence of British Ambassador to Qatar Ajay Sharma, VIP guests, and representatives of the media.

Northumbria University is a public university from the UK, with more than 35,000 students from 140 countries around the world. Founded in 1880, the University has a distinguished academic history for more than 135 years, and its programs are accredited by leading professional institutions around the world. The University has been recognized as one of the top universities in the UK for their successful job placement for graduates within 6 months of graduating.

The university is located at QFBA in West Bay.

Dr Mohamed Abdullah al-Emadi, acting CEO of QFBA, said: “We are proud to present to our community in Qatar one of the most renowned British universities that is regarded with providing high level academic education that encompasses a wide range of disciplines.”

“The University of Northumbria joined the list of top business schools worldwide by gaining double accreditation from AACSB for its business and accounting division, and has a deeply rooted history in the field of education; its curricula and academic programs have also been adopted by academic and professional institutions in many countries of the world.

“Accordingly, we’ve been driven to start a distinguished partnership with the University and establish a branch in the State of Qatar, after we obtained all official approvals from the concerned authorities, especially Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The University will provide a wide range of scientific and professional programs that meet the needs of the labour market in Qatar,” he added.

Yousuf Mohamed Al-Jaida, chief executive officer, QFC Authority stated: “In 2009, we established the Qatar Finance and Business Academy to raise the financial services industry standards and help organisations and professionals achieve their learning and business objectives. Today, I stand here with pride as we take this significant step towards providing the highest level of education and preparation for our new generation of leaders and shapers.

Professor John Wilson, pro vice-chancellor for the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria University, said: “The launch of Northumbria University in Qatar is a great occasion to express our pleasure and enthusiasm to contribute to the educational process in Qatar by providing our accumulated academic experience over 135 years of outstanding work with students.”
