Officials at the signing ceremony held in Ras Al Khaimah.

RAK university partners with Al Shrooq Green Energy

RAS AL KHAIMAH, February 5, 2018

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (Aurak) said it has signed an agreement with UAE-based company Al Shrooq Green Energy (ASGE), a specialist in municipal solid waste gasification technologies.

The arrangement agrees to mutual co-operation in terms of sharing expertise, a pilot scaled skid-mounted gasification unit (SMGU), and research on waste-to-energy systems developed by ASGE.

As per the deal, both Aurak and ASGE will collaborate in research fields such as syngas conversion to methanol and waste heat recovery. In addition, the university students will have internship opportunities at the organisation.

As per the deal, the UAE group will deliver the pilot gasification unit to RAK Research and Innovation Center for using the sysngas produced from the waste sources in Ras Al Khaimah.

This initiative directly joins with RAK Waste Management Authority to support its mission of diverting 75 per cent of the MSW away from landfills by 2021.

As per the terms of the agreement, the green energy group will support RAK research unit for R&D programmes in the areas of mutual interest related to municipal solid waste and bio-solids gasification in the UAE, remarked Prof Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, the university president, after signing the deal with Manoharan Sundaralingam, the chief executive of ASGE in the presence of Prof Mousa Mohsen, the dean of the School of Engineering and director of RAK Research and Innovation Center and Sonia Nasser, the executive director of RAK Waste Management Authority.

ASGE will be actively involved in giving the university access to their pilot scale system, instrumentation, and experienced technical staff.

ASGE said it will also support the RAK research unit's staff and students in conducting practical research on the pilot scale unit.

"We are delighted with this partnership, as it gives us the chance to work with students and support their projects, allowing them to put the theories they learn in the classroom into real, industry-relevant practice," remarked Manoharan.

"This university also has a range of world-class researchers in their respective fields, so we are very excited to work with them. This relationship has great potential," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
