Emirates NBD gets first female Emirati CEO

DUBAI, June 13, 2017

Emirates NBD, a leading bank in the region, has appointed UAE national Maryam Bahlooq as the new chief executive officer of its fully-owned subsidiary Tanfeeth (getting the job done in Arabic).

With this appointment, Bahlooq has become the first female Emirati to hold this position within Emirates NBD Group.

GCC's first large-scale shared services company employing over 2700 people, Tanfeeth works in partnership with its clients to get results and applies deep regional knowledge by investing heavily in its own people with ongoing training and development programs,said a statement from the Emirati banking group.  

She was previously the acting group head, Human Resources and led the HR Business Partnership unit at Emirates NBD.

Bahlooq brings with her more than 17 years of experience within the banking group, having held various operational and strategic roles within its Human Resources department, heading the recruitment, nationalisation and business partnership. During her term, she  played a pivotal role in the people management aspect of the bank’s mergers and acquisitions, both local and international.

The company also announced that acting CEO Steve Thompson has been appointed the chief operating officer. His previous roles at Tanfeeth also included as chief executive of corporate operations and OPC (Operation Processing Center) where he delivered significant impact for the group especially in terms of his focus on service excellence and driving operating efficiencies.

Welcoming Bahlooq into the team, Abdulla Qassem, the group chief operating officer, Emirates NBD and chairman of Tanfeeth, said: "Her experience and track record of guiding and motivating diverse groups to enhance business performance equips her well to lead Tanfeeth."

"Tanfeeth plays a crucial role within the group and I am confident that with her leadership, the team will continue to scale service excellence standards and deliver outstanding support across our business units and subsidiaries," statd Qassem.

An excited Bahlooq said she was honoured to lead Tanfeeth as it continued to support Emirates NBD Group’s growing needs, which include business units, subsidiaries and international operations.

"I am also delighted to be the first female UAE national to assume a CEO position within the Group and hope to inspire and mentor others like me to take on similar leadership roles," she added.-TradeArabia News Service
