UAE telecom watchdog backs Emirati skills event

ABU DHABI, April 29, 2015

The UAE’s General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA) has announced its support to a premier annual competition that marks outstanding Emirati talents in technical and vocational skills.

Organised by Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET), the “EmiratesSkills National Competition 2015” is taking place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) from April 28 to 30.

The event contributes to raising awareness of career-based technical and vocational education among young Emiratis, by organizing competitions, events, training programs and activities in technical career.

Organised within the framework of the “EmiratesSkills” Programme, this competition aims to support the national industrial and technological growth in the UAE, by refining the skills of young Emiratis and raising the national standard in craftsmanship and applied technology disciplines, to the highest degree of precision and accuracy.

This initiative represents a valuable opportunity for highly skilled students and the Emirati youth in general to showcase their talent, demonstrate their skills in the fields of craftsmanship and technology, and meet the challenge of participating in competitions at the national, regional and international level.

"We believe it’s very important to place emphasis on innovation, fostering skills and promoting creativity, as these are the key drivers for boosting the process of sustainable development in the UAE,” said Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, TRA director general.

“At the TRA, we translate this belief into daily practice and approach that inspires creativity among employees and creates a culture that encourages innovation and solicits creative ideas.

“Through our support of the National Competition, we demonstrate our commitment to nurturing young Emirati talents and empowering them with the necessary skills to face future challenges and creating innovative solutions that serve the ultimate goals of economic diversification in the UAE.

“This is achieved through building a competitive and highly productive knowledge-based economy. We trust in the capabilities of our youths, who are continuously demonstrating high skills and competencies and innovating unique ideas and solutions that will definitely have a significant positive impact on the UAE’s ICT landscape,” he added.
