Fathers can’t sponsor dependents over 25 in Saudi

JEDDAH, October 5, 2014

Saudi Arabia has ruled that dependents aged more than 25 years will no longer be allowed to stay in the kingdom under the sponsorship of their fathers, according to a report.

They will now have to seek independent sponsors and change their professions on their iqamas, added the Arab News report, which cited sources at the Passport Department.

“The Passport Department will not renew the iqamas of residents with dependents aged 25 or above until they transfer their sponsorships and change their occupation,” Mohammed Hussain, a spokesman in Jeddah was quoted as saying in the report.
