Garmco, Tamkeen in deal to train Bahraini staff

MANAMA, September 14, 2014

Bahrain-based Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill Company (Garmco), one of the largest downstream aluminium facilities in the Middle East, has signed an agreement with Tamkeen, the kingdom’s labour fund, to train all its Bahraini employees as part of its new strategy to enhance employee efficiency.

The agreement comes under Tamkeen's Career Progression Programme, an initiative which helps employers address performance gaps of their Bahraini employees by providing quality training opportunities to develop work-related competencies.

Garmco will utilise the training to increase team building, supervisory and managerial skills and competencies to address skills gaps of its 270 Bahraini employees and boost their performance.

"The Career Progression Programme is among the flagship initiatives launched by Tamkeen to develop Bahrainis' skills in line with market needs and making them employees of choice," Tamkeen human capital development vice-president Amal Al Kooheji said.

"The dual approach of the programme, which serves the needs of both company and employee, and its flexible training options stems from Tamkeen's strategic focus on achieving results, being customer-oriented, and enhancing quality," she said.

In addition to accredited certifications, employees who successfully complete the training also receive salary increases which are subsidised by Tamkeen for up to 18 months.

Launched in 2007, the Career Progression Programme has served more than 14,389 Bahraini employees from across all sectors as of August 2014, with Tamkeen's support over that span totalling more than BD26 million.

"We firmly believe that the key to the success of our business is our people; in line with our business strategy, we are committed to fully develop local talent within Garmco for they are the kingdom's future industry leaders," chief executive Graham Bruce said.

This programme will enable us to achieve our manpower and succession planning objectives and to support the continued growth and development of Garmco." – TradeArabia News Service
