Just Falafel sends campaign winner to US university

DUBAI, September 3, 2014

Just Falafel, a Middle Eastern food concept that is redefining street food, is sending off its “Help Us Help You” campaign winner, 18-year old Aqil Rashid for his first term at the ivy league Brown University in Boston, US.

Rashid was just 15 years old when he won the Just Falafel scholarship, which offered to pay a child’s school fees, for his dedication to building drinking wells in remote villages in Afghanistan, said a statement.

He is deciding which courses to take out of thousands on offer at the university. The subjects include computer music, critical thinking and calculus before he picks his majors in the second year.

Mohamad Bitar, founder and managing director of Just Falafel, said: “We are very humbled to be part of Aqil’s journey and see the ‘Just’ in our name come to life with such great individuals that are paying forward their good fortune”.

Aqil, whose family is originally from Pakistan, said gone are the days when you meet your roommate on campus, with his friendship already established with his Indian roommate through the university’s Facebook page.

“We are already setting ground rules and both agree that keeping our room tidy will be one of our biggest challenges.”

He is still weighing up a future in technology spurred on by inventors such as Elon Musk of Tesla Motors and Space X that are using technology to shape the world.

Pressed on a future occupation, Rashid remains philosophical saying “education is not where it ends, it is what you end up doing with it that’s important. How you live your life with good intentions is what really makes a difference.” - TradeArabia News Service
