Rota interview to screen youth conference applicants

Doha, March 9, 2014

Reach Out To Asia (Rota), a Qatar-based educational not-for-profit organisation, is set to conduct an interviewing process to screen the more than 975 online registration applications for a youth conference taking place this month in Doha.

The sixth Empower Youth Conference 2014, with the theme ‘Sports for Youth Empowerment,’ will run from March 27 to 29 at the Qatar Foundation Student Center.

The interviewing process will take place in collaboration with the Family Consulting Center, said a statement.

The organisation also hosted an interview workshop to train and equip the Rota youth advisory board on interviewing skills, who will interview all applicants before being accepted to attend the yearly conference.

About 450 youth between the ages of 16 and 26 will attend the conference, which will focus on leadership, service learning and global citizenship. The organisers will be intergrating sports, environment, skills development and the Arabic language as key themes to the programme, said the statement.

Essa Al Mannai, executive director, said: “Empower 2014 is a unique platform for youth to discover their voice, realise their potential to make a positive contribution and develop their skills, understanding and attitudes to take an active leadership role within their communities.

"Rota is working harder this year to ensure talented youth are taking advantage from this participation. For this, we have launched, for the first time in five years, the interviewing process that helps conducting efficient interviews with the students registered for the conference. This process is aimed at choosing the most distinguished students to participate in Empower 2014."

The conference will include seminars, panel discussions, power speech, small group workshops, off-site visits, and a youth panel, who will be able to share ideas, expertise, knowledge and common grounds while improving their talents and abilities, he added.

It is aimed at raising awareness and building knowledge and capacity to enable young people to take leadership roles to address local and international developmental issues that concern them.

The conference has been organised in collaboration with the Planning Committee comprising 30 youth volunteers. The committee will assist Rota in planning implementing and co-ordinating certain elements of the conference.

“It will focus on Sports for Youth Empowerment. Through sport, people discover talents they never knew they had – how to strive to be the best you can be – the importance of teamwork – how to compete with dignity and generosity in victory or defeat”, Al Mannai added. - TradeArabia News Service
