RTA awards contract for 3 new trucks rest stops in Dubai

DUBAI, December 5, 2022

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded contracts for constructing three all-inclusive truck rest stops, in partnership with the private sector.
 
The first contract was made with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), while the other two were inked with Almutakamela Vehicle Testing and Registration.
 
The scope of work includes setting up of three truck rest stops over a total area of more than 226,000 sq m that will have a capacity to accommodate about 500 trucks and heavy vehicles.
 
These stations will provide an array of services to enhance the wellbeing of drivers including residential quarters, maintenance workshops, restaurants, administrative buildings, prayer rooms, driver training centres as well as clinics, pharmacies, exchange shops, laundry and other support services, said RTA in a statement.
 
The facility, which will come up on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road near Jebel Ali Free Zone and Al Maktoum International Airport, is being undertaken by Almutakamela Vehicle Testing and Registration. 
 
Once completed, it will boast 100,000 sq m area with a capacity for 200 trucks and heavy vehicles.
 
Almutakamela will also be responsible for a second facility coming up on a 51,000 sq m area, at the Dubai Industrial City (DIC). It will have the capacity to accommodate 120 trucks and heavy vehicles.
 
The third rest stop will come up near Emirates Road on a 76,000 sq m area and is being undertaken by Adnoc. It will have a capacity to accommodate 150 vehicles.
 
Lauding the PPP project, Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA, said: "We are delighted to see the growing engagement of private businesses in infrastructure and services projects."
 
"This agreement concluded with Adnoc and Almutakamela to build and operate these three rest-stops is aimed at enhancing the safety and wellbeing of drivers by providing amenities and services they need in daily life," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
