Tadweer to float tenders for waste-to-energy, MRF-DRF facilities

ABU DHABI, January 19, 2022

Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) will soon be floating tenders for two key projects - a waste-to-energy project and a MRF-RDF (Material Recovery Facilities- Refuse Derived Fuel) project during the first quarter of 2022, said its top official.

This comes in line with Tadweer's 2022 plan to complete a series of strategic projects and initiatives, stated Dr Salem Al Kaabi, the Director General of Tadweer.

Some of the big Tadweer projects include waste-to-aviation fuel facility, a unit to extract gas from landfills in addition to establishment of engineering cells and importing waste from outside the emirate," he added.

Al Kaabi was speaking at the eighth edition of EcoWASTE 2022 Exhibition and Forum, held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).

He also discussed Tadweer strategic initiatives and its plans and expected achievements for 2022.

On its key 2021 achievements, Al Kaabi said Tadweer had succeeded in reducing the amount of waste sent to the emirate's landfills by 40 per cent and was now working to achieve its strategic goal of 80% reduction by 2030.

At the forum, Al Kaabi also highlighted the Center’s efforts for safely managing and disposing medical waste contaminated with Covid-19, including bandages, toothbrushes, syringes, needles, surgical equipment, blood and tissue testing waste, pharmacies waste and radiation therapy waste with an overall capacity of 16 tonnes per day.

The event witnessed wide-scale local, regional, and global participation and also presence of senior officials including Grace Fu, Indonesian Minister of Sustainability and the Environment, and Kamal Vaswani, Singapore’s ambassador to the UAE, as well as Ali Khalifa Qamzi, Director General of Al Ain City Municipality, and an official delegation from Al Dhafra Municipality.

More than 35 local, regional, and international companies took part, of which 12 were first timers.-TradeArabia News Service
