Bahrain, Saudi officials review key King Hamad Causeway project

Leading Bahrain and Saudi officials took part in a high-level steering committee meeting held today (February 25) to follow up on the outputs of the economic, financial and technical study of the key phases of King Hamad Causeway Project and the accompanying railway network connecting the other GCC states, reported BNA.
 
King Hamad Causeway Project, a 25-km-long strategic artery linking Bahrain with Saudi Arabia, will be in parallel to the King Fahad Causeway and will consist of four lanes for vehicles and two lanes for the railway. 
 
It will connect the King Hamad International Station, which will be set up in Al Ramli region, to the railways in Dammam and other cities in the kingdom, said the report.
 
The meeting was attended by Saudi Transportation Minister Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al Jasser; Bahraini Minister of Transportation and Telecommunication Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed; Saudi Public Transport Authority President Dr Remih bin Mohammed Al Remih; King Fahad Causeway Organisation board chairman Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Haqbani and Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication Undersecretary for Land Transportation and Post Engineer Sami Abdullah Bu Hazza.
 
A detailed presentation was given at the meeting on the latest developments of the project, including the financial model, funding method, the general framework for cooperation with the private sector and revision of the implementation schedules of the project’s phases.
 
The committee approved the outputs of the study and the proposed schedule, said the report. 
 
An induction workshop will also be prepared for the project with the private sector, including investors and developers to identify the sector’s interests before starting implementation of the project. A follow-up meeting on the study’s remaining outputs will also be held within a month, it added.
