Boskalis Westminster JV to start dredging work on key Bahrain causeway

MANAMA, July 16, 2020

Leading Dutch dredging group Boskalis Westminster Contracting and its joint venture partner Saudi-based Boskalis Westminster Al Rushaid Company will start dredging and reclamation work for the North Manama Causeway Phase 2 and Busaiteen Package 2 from next week.

The operations will kick off from July 20 onwards and will run for the next four months, said Boskalis Westminster Contracting in its notification.

The contracts had been awarded to the duo by the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.

A major player in the region, Boskalis Westminster Al Rushaid Company is a leading contractor for marinas, ports and harbours besides the land reclamation and dredging works; offshore contracting; engineering consultancy and maintenance services.

The North Manama Causeway forms part of the works ministry's strategic plan to improve the existing road network by developing new road corridors to support the rapidly expanding economy of Bahrain.

The project encompasses over 21 km of new roads, 11 junctions and a new signature bridge, the fourth Muharraq Crossing. A large section of the network will be situated in the water, for which land reclamation will be required.

Part of a long-term and strategic initiative undertaken by the ministry, the development will service the expansion projected in the capital and Muharraq governorate as well as supplement the strategic road network in line with the 2030 vision for the country.

Boskalis Westminster said its Middle East unit has participated in almost all of the medium and large reclamation projects since the early 1980s and has since then been continuously active in Bahrain.-TradeArabia News Service
