Tadweer to deploy 4,500 workers in cleaning drive

ABU DHABI, August 7, 2019

Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) will deploy 4,500 strong workforces on two round-the-clock shifts, with more than 600 cleaners to cover Abu Dhabi city alone during Eid Al Adha 2019.

Working overtime in accordance with relevant labour laws, the cleaners will sweep and pick up waste from public places, including markets and parks.

More cleaners will be assigned at prayer grounds, with 122 workers to be allocated at mosques across the emirate. Furthermore, 20 workers will carry out daily cleaning at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

Tadweer will further deploy 12 additional cleaning equipment units in slaughterhouses, as well as 9 units for street cleaning and waste collection, and 7 automatic sweeping machines, with all equipment to work in two shifts daily. To facilitate prompt and efficient waste disposal at slaughterhouses, the center will supply 22 additional waste bins and increase the number of cleaners employed there.

Tadweer’s plan also includes the provision of public health pest control and stray animal custody services during Eid Al Adha in anticipation of any related crisis. An emergency response team has been mobilized to deal with contingencies.

A team specializing in public health and pest control services will serve livestock markets, slaughter houses, vegetable and fruit markets, meat and fish markets, prayer grounds, and public parks.

The center will also conduct field activities and preventive measures in target locations, including 16 slaughterhouses and nine livestock markets in Abu Dhabi in order to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.

Dr Salem Al Kaabi, general manager of Tadweer, said: “As Eid Al Adha is a religious occasion with special social traditions and rituals, we seek to prepare an optimal environment for the public to spend the Eid holiday and celebrate this blessed occasion with friends and family.”

“Therefore, we have devised an integrated plan that includes the cleaning of all mosques, prayer grounds, public parks, and slaughterhouses. We will provide all services and support in accordance with the highest standards of safety and efficiency to ensure that the religious rituals associated with the festival are practiced in a safe and healthy environment.

“To meet the increased demand for our services, we will deploy a larger number of cleaners in congested areas and put our emergency teams on high alert throughout the Eid holiday. We request people to avoid slaughtering of sacrificial animals in non-designated places to ensure their safety and prevent the spreading of diseases and foul odour. We also call upon the public to avoid throwing waste in residential areas and maintain the cleanliness of public facilities and the emirate’s aesthetic appeal,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
