Kuwait Oil Company plans to build 15 new substations

KUWAIT CITY, May 30, 2019

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has announced plans to build 15 substations in the country's Burgan Al Kabir area.

The Burgan field is playing a key role in achieving KOC's strategic goal of reaching 3.65 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2020.

The company is all set to sign agreements worth KD30 million ($98.2 million) for the construction of two 11 kV substations in the Burgan field to supply the submersible electric pumps in the field with electrical power necessary for operation, according to Arab Times, citing sources.

Of the two contracts, the first one was clinched by Al Ghanim International Company with a value of KD16.4 million, while the second one was awarded to Heavy Engineering Industries Company for KD12.8 million, it added.

KKOC is aiming to replace some of the existing stations with the establishment of new substations. The company is working on several development programmes in Burgan Al Kabir field to maintain its production capacity of 1.7 million barrels of oil per day, said the report.

These programmes include maintaining the pressure of the Wara reservoir, development of the third upper sand layer of Burgan field, in addition to the pilot project to pump water in the Al-Marat reservoir and the development of Al-Manakeesh reservoir, it added.
