Bombardier team preferred bidder for Cairo monorail

Bombardier, a global leader in the transportation industry, said its consortium comprising Egyptian firms Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors, has been named as the preferred bidder for a €3 billion ($3.35 billion) monorail project coming up in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

The potential value of the design-and-build contract bid is €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion), said a statement from the Canadian group.

The scope of work includes the delivery of a 54-km monorail system connecting the New Administrative City with East Cairo as well as a second 42-km-line connecting 6th October City with Giza.

In addition, there is a 15+15 years operations and maintenance deal with a potential value of about €1.1 billion. The rolling stock part of the order will be developed and built in Derby, UK, said ths statement.

A global mobility solution provider, Bombardier Transportation is leading the way with the rail industry’s broadest portfolio.

It covers the full spectrum of solutions, ranging from trains to sub-systems and signalling to complete turnkey transport systems, e-mobility technology and data-driven maintenance services, it stated.

Meanwhile, local media reports said the consortium which includes Orascom Construction is still in negotiations with the Egyptian government to establish the 6th of October - new capital monorail project. No agreement has been reached yet.-TradeArabia News Service
