Sharjah to develop new food and entertainment district

SHARJAH, February 1, 2018

Restaurant Secrets, a Dubai-based destination developer and lease management company, has unveiled plans to set up a first-of-its-kind art, food and entertainment hub – Funoon District - on Sharjah waterfront.

The consultants behind over 200 restaurant concepts across the GCC, Restaurant Secrets will bring to life numerous food trucks, kiosks, restaurants and cafés to this destination.

Funoon District offers itself as a canvas to painters, musicians, artists and chefs. A hub of art, food and culture, the destination will become an important landmark in the region, said the company in a statement.

With the breathtaking Al Majaz Amphitheatre as Funoon’s backdrop, not only will the district come alive with food, flavours and spectacular visual displays, but inspiring sounds from local and international artists, it added.

On the novel concept, CEO Ralph Homer said: "Funoon District has been incubated to be a casual social space that brings together people of different interests, talents and backgrounds across musicians, foodies, families and artists."

A major player in the region, Restaurant Secrets delivers turnkey solutions to launch successful restaurants throughout the GCC.

The consultancy has incubated concepts like The Hamptons Café on Jumeirah Road, the Doner & Gyros franchise, Jolie Floral Boutique Café, The Victorian and Mitts & Trays in City Walk, and Clinton St. Baking Company in Downtown Dubai.

"We are honoured to have been awarded the task to develop the region’s most unique destination by HH Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi. Our team has been involved over the last year to bring creative yet accessible ideas to the ever-growing needs of the leisure seeker," remarked Homer.

"One of the unique elements of this destination is that it is dedicated to support remarkable home-grown brands. Every retailer and F&B (food and beverages) provider at Funoon is a brand that has been proudly 'Made in the UAE'," he added.

The Funoon District is due to be opened to public by the end of this year.

According to Homer, Sharjah’s first permanent Food Truck – Buns of Steel has already made its debut at Funoon at the Al Majaz Amphitheatre with the first ‘Eat like the Locals’ truck that serves Emirati cuisine inspired sandwiches.

“With over 20 F&B outlets, outdoor trucks and food containers as well as various street art and music initiatives,  cinema under the skies, Ramadan markets and food theatres, Funoon District will bring in a new era in leisure at value prices,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
