Qatar's mega reservoirs project 70pc complete

DOHA, September 17, 2017

Work on the $4.7-billion Water Security Mega Reservoirs Project in Qatar is progressing at a steady pace with 70 per cent job already completed, said a report.

The project, which comprises five mega-reservoirs, is aimed at supplying Qatar’s population a seven-day strategic reserve of freshwater, reported Doha News.

Currently, the nation has at best a two-day emergency supply. This is problematic given Qatar’s growing population, which has put an increasing strain on the country’s resources.

On completion, they will be among the world’s largest reservoirs, with a capacity of 100 million gallons of water each, it added.
