How will buildings be in 50 years in the region?

DUBAI, September 11, 2017

Sustainability will be at the heart of all future building developments, and the predictions for the next 50 years are that all buildings will be environmentally friendly, according to Atkins, a top project management consultancy.

On the 50th anniversary of Atkins in the Middle East, 126 of the company’s experts in design, engineering and project management have shared their predictions of what the region will look like in the next 50 years.

There will be more community-based living, according to 49 per cent of Atkins experts, as well as more uniquely designed buildings than previously (44 per cent), the report said.

Overall, the tech innovations that we are most likely to see in infrastructure, include extensions to existing metros and increases in their speed, more underground tunnel systems, and a network of driverless cars with dedicated lanes – and there is also a prediction for more low level buildings than skyscrapers (19 per cent).

When it comes to the properties of the future, we are more likely to use smart technology and designs inspired by the natural world along with commonplace living walls and rooftop gardens, the study said.

In the aviation sector, automated check-ins (94 per cent), biometric gates (90per cent) and laser powered security scanners (90per cent) are likely to gain ground, it added.

To achieve this vision of innovation, Atkins’ experts have stressed the need to continue to have forward thinking leaders and governments, and use opportunities like Expo 2020 and the Middle East’s geographical location in the world. – TradeArabia News Service
