Abu Dhabi Airport Interchange 68pc completed

ABU DHABI, June 17, 2017

Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) said 68 per cent of the work has been completed on a Dh678-million ($185 million) project involving the upgrade of the road network and interchange at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The project will connect the new terminal of Abu Dhabi International Airport to the Abu Dhabi-Shahama (E10) highway and will provide a direct access to and from the terminal towards Abu Dhabi as well as Dubai and Al Ain cities, reported state news agency Wam.

Under the project, the E10 highway will become broader, increasing from four to five lanes in both directions, and the Presidential Flight road will increase from two to three lanes in both directions, it stated.

Faisal Ahmad Al Suwaidi, the director-general of Main Roads Division at Department of Municipal Affairs and Department of Transport (DMAT), said: "Once operational, this project will significantly help improve traffic safety levels and reduce accident ratios by enhancing traffic movement, ensuring smooth flow and avoiding any congestion in future."

"Designed and constructed in line with highest international design, traffic engineering, safety and environment standards, this crucially pivotal traffic route represents an important addition to the main road network in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi," he noted.

Saleh Al Sheibah Al Mazrouei, the acting roads and infrastructure executive director at Musanada, said the project is one of the critical land transport projects currently being executed by the company as part of its efforts to deliver strategic projects that contribute to achievement of the objectives of Abu Dhabi Plan.

It is aimed at enhancing the quality of infrastructure and support the economic development of Abu Dhabi, and the overall development process in the UAE, he added.
