Royal HaskoningDHV wins Saudi logistics park contract

AMSTERDAM, July 21, 2016

Royal HaskoningDHV, an international project management consultancy, said it has been appointed by the Saudi Trade and Export Development Company (Tusdeer) to provide masterplanning and consulting engineering services for its new state-of-the-art logistics park in Jeddah.

Tusdeer, a leading logistics zone development company in Saudi Arabia, has entered into a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement to develop the 634,000-sq-m Tusdeer Khumra Logistics Park (TKLP) in the Al Khumra district in south Jeddah, stated the Netherlands-based company.

The TKLP development promises to provide employment opportunities and boost the local economy, it stated.

Royal HaskoningDHV pointed out that its partnership with Tusdeer will play a key role in the kingdom’s vision to ensure more diverse and sustainable socio-economic growth for the future.

The TKLP’s site plan includes a logistics hub, warehouses constructed to international standards equipped with the capacity for dry and cold storage, container storage and handling and accommodation for workers.

Royal HaskoningDHV has a strong pedigree working with both public and private sector clients in the Middle East and was assigned by Tusdeer to prepare the masterplan and detailed construction documentation for this first phase of the logistics park build.

As per the deal, Royal HaskoningDHV will provide design, development and utilities solutions for the TKLP.

Phil Eiszele, the project director at Tusdeer, said: "We have a trusted partner in Royal HaskoningDHV, given their local knowledge and track record in operating here in the Middle East. Their innovative approach to masterplanning was apparent even in the first sessions where they came with well thought out ideas to improve and optimise the layout of TKLP, thus spurring new ideas to enhance the quality of the park."

The TKLP, he stated, was a significant development for Jeddah as it will help to facilitate trade and commercial opportunities within Saudi Arabia.

"This private sector project will be developed in a series of stages over a seven-year period, eventually becoming the largest integrated logistics park in the country," he added.

The development reflects the government’s commitment to expanding private sector investment in strategic sectors such as logistics as outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology which aims to ensure smooth and secure operations and reduce end-to-end transit time, the TKLP will facilitate the movement of all commodities into the kingdom.

Eiszele said: "We look forward to a productive partnership with Royal HaskoningDHV in the development of the park, a site that will be of great importance to Jeddah allowing us to facilitate trade and commercial opportunities with Saudi Arabia."

Jan Brouwer, Royal HaskoningDHV’s director for transport and planning in the Middle East, said: "We are very proud to be working with Tusdeer on the masterplanning and construction planning for the logistics park."

"Our team has been recognised as one of the major players in providing integrated planning expertise in the Middle East since we started operating in the region in 1965," stated Brouwer.

"Our track record in delivering projects for public authorities and private enterprises like Tusdeer illustrates not only the strength and depth of our portfolio here in the Middle East but it also reaffirms our commitment and support to the region in its dynamic development," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
