Bahrain harbour project on track

MANAMA, July 18, 2016

The work on the Zallaq Harbour Project in Bahrain is progressing well with several of the key development phases completed as per schedule.

The harbour has the capacity to accommodate 112 boats, each of which is 10m long. Also the facility boasts 56 stores for sale of sailing equipment, a shaded yard to fix and maintain boats tools and a parking lot, said a statement from the ministry.

Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf visit the project site to inspect the work progress and assess any obstacles facing the project, it stated.

The minister later toured the location, accompanied by roads projects & maintenance director Sayyed Bader Alawi, special projects chief Colin, project engineer Steve Flingin and area engineer Rashad Al Rayyan.

Al Khalaf was given updates on the construction of a road to serve the harbour. Completion of the road is to coincide with the completion of construction works involved in the project, it added.

The minister also approved the construction of a garden within the boundaries of the harbour to serve residents of the area.

In another development, the ministry said work has started on the sewerage network project in Sanad and Nasfa area of the kingdom.

This comes in line with the government's plans to improve sanitary services in the Capital Governorate, stated Asma Murad, the sanitary engineering assistant undersecretary at the ministry.

The BD1.39 million ($3.68 million) project, which was awarded to Down Town, will cover block 733 in Nasfa and part of Block 743 in Sanad.

Murad said the scope of work includes extending 6.1km of main connections and 2.9km sub-connections, constructing 622 lifting stations and connecting 364 houses in Block 733 in Nasfa and houses in Block 743 in Sanad to the network.-TradeArabia News Service
